The SBS Pathways Center is looking for students from all SBS majors to serve as Peer Advising interns for the Fall 2023/Spring 2024 academic year. As a peer Intern, you will serve a critical role in fostering a culture and climate that is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence, as well as creating a welcoming place for your peers to access critical services to help their success at UMass.
SBS is home to Academic Deans, Career and Professional Development, SBS Exploratory Track Advising, and RISE (Remedying Inequity through Student Engagement). In your work with students, and with all staff in the Pathways Center, you will consider how to best develop a unique and holistic college experience; ultimately assisting your peers in their development of key competencies for college and beyond.
SBS Pathways Internship Overview and Time Commitment
This internship is a two-semester commitment (one academic year). Students receive two credits per semester. Each semester, interns will commit to 80 hours (on average 6 hours per week).
The internship contains key components rooted in:
- Participation in a year-long professional development training course that meets weekly Tuesdays at 11:30-12:45. (16hr and 15min. total for the semester)
- Assigned weekly hours (four hours per week) working in the Pathways Center for student drop-ins (52 hours total per semester)
- Involvement in individual and group projects, provide content and upkeep of the SBS Pathways website, Peer social media channels and other Pathways social media, assist with events and workshop presentations (11 hours and 45 minutes total per semester)
- Attend an online training (Thursday, August 17th 12-1pm), as well as in-person training Monday, September 4th 10:00am-3:00pm in the Pathways Center
