You made it through the fall semester, and hopefully you’ve had a restful and restorative holiday season.
What’s ahead for you in terms of your job or internship search, and/or your career development activities?
~ January is a great time to set some goals for the spring, and put some structure around your job search to make it manageable and not overwhelming. As you plan out your spring, set aside some regular, dedicated time in your weekly planner to work on your search. That way, you are always moving forward, and it isn’t hanging over your head as something you keep putting off.
~ While you are a student, you have access to Linkedin Learning courses for free (Use your UMass email). If you are reading job descriptions and seeing some skill or tech platform that you don’t know how to use, find a training on Linkedin Learning and complete it over break. You won’t be an expert, but you will have basic level understanding (or you can dig in and do advanced trainings, too!)
~ Speaking of Linkedin… break is a great time to get your Linkedin profile set up, including a photo, and really get your info in there, so recruiters can find you. Also a great time to complete your Handshake profile.
~ Wondering what it is like to do a particular job? Check out our virtual job simulations with the Forage platform. We’ve curated some beginner and intermediate level simulations with companies in consulting, banking, law, marketing & sales, real estate, and more, as well as some general skill building experiences. Check these out here.
Need advice or guidance? Your SBS career team is working during break, and available for appointments. You can schedule with us via your Handshake account. Log in with your UMass login, select the career center tab, and then Appointments.
