Considering a Career in Social Work? Sociology LEAD Program to launch at Mount Ida Spring 2026

If you are interested in internships in social work, social research, or criminology, this may be the program for you! Spend a semester interning at exciting locations in the Greater Boston area and taking courses relevant to your major. Intern in fields like social work, social research, criminology, education and more! Open to all majors.

HIGH IMPACT LEARNING

  • Spend a semester at the Mount Ida Campus with a peer cohort
  • Delve deep into an internship in the Greater Boston area
  • Gain practical experience that prepares you for your future career while taking classes and staying on track to graduate on time
  • Earn certifications in CPR/AID, Mental Health First Aid, HIPAA and other specialized training opportunities

    PROGRAM DETAILS
  • 6+ internship credits
  • 4 credits of SOCIOL 328: Intro to Social Work with Veronica Everett (no prerequisite, open to any major)
  • Optional: Junior Year Writing in PBS
  • 9+ credits of U+ classes at no additional cost, including SocOnline option

The program runs in the spring semester and is open to all majors at UMass Amherst. Students in their sophomore, junior and senior years are welcome to apply.
