Massachusetts Appeals Court @ UMass Amherst

Close-up of a program for the Mass Appeals Court at UMass. In the blurred background are the backs of heads in an audience and the empty podium flanked by a US flag and the Massachusetts flagThe Massachusetts Appeals Court is once again visiting UMass Amherst to hear oral arguments in six pending cases. The arguments are open to the public, providing students with a fantastic opportunity to see the Appeals Court in action, right here on campus.

The three justices making up the panel will hold a special informal discussion after the hearings to answer student questions. As an added bonus, students are invited to have lunch with the justices and their clerks after the session. Registration for lunch required.

The hearing will include three criminal cases and two civil cases — you can find the case info, along with the briefs (legal memoranda) in all of them here.

The panel will be comprised of Justices William Meade (UMass ’86), Joseph Ditkoff, and Robert Toone.
