Associate positions are available in BRG’s Business Insurance Claims (BIC), Financial Institutions Advisory (FIA), Forensic Accounting & Valuation, and Government Contracts (GovCon). These groups are comprised of a diverse collection of experts who bring extensive academic and industry experience to deliver data driven and innovative approaches to complex business, legal, and regulatory challenges. They interact to deliver unique and insightful perspectives to our clients across various industries. Candidates can select a preferred group as part of the application process. - Business Insurance Claims (BIC) – BRG’s BIC experts are often retained immediately after a catastrophe to provide advice and guidance to the policyholder in the recovery process and to prepare claims. Our experts analyze detailed financial and accounting records and operations data; develop financial models to assess losses; and prepare insurance claims that are comprehensive and well documented, and support resolution and payment of complex claims.
- Financial Institutions Advisory (FIA) – BRG’s FIA practice specializes in helping financial institutions (including banks, broker dealers, and money services businesses),government and regulatory bodies, and fintech firms solve pressing industry and regulatory issues. The group brings a mix of functional experts—including former regulators, financial modelers, technologists, former bankers, and longtime consultants—to address immediate risks and drive tangible benefits.
- Forensic Accounting & Valuation – BRG’s Forensic Accounting & Valuation experts use their forensic accounting and financial expertise, to evaluate the financial and operational records of global organizations in various industries and provide expert evidence and testimony in many jurisdictions. BRG’s Forensic Accounting & Valuation experts are adept at translating complex financial transactions and numerical data into terms that a layperson can understand and interpret in a legal setting. Our forensic accounting experts apply their understanding of industry, accounting, finance, and economics to address complex issues that arise in dispute resolution in areas such as forensic and fraud investigations, commercial damages, bankruptcies, intellectual property, insurance claims, and business valuations.
- Government Contracts (GovCon) – BRG’s GovCon group advises clients on matters that span the entire lifecycle of a government procurements, focusing primarily on complex costing and pricing matters, restructuring cost accounting practices, responding to regulatory audits, and award close-outs. The group brings intelligent, innovative solutions combined with a focus on financial expertise, regulatory interpretation and compliance, to the issues clients face including successful resolution of government audits, investigations, disputes, and suspension and debarment. Our consultants help clients in virtually every industry pursue and succeed in business with Federal, State and International Government entities by advising them on successfully navigating the complex financial challenges, regulations and policies and adapting commercial business practices to accommodate regulatory and donor requirements.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with clients analyzing various financial cost and pricing-related challenges
- Assist clients with critical accounting, contract administration, and strategic business assessments. Develop customized solutions addressing critical objectives while also enhancing client operational effectiveness and profitability.
- Perform detailed research and analysis, then put the results into action (e.g., gather, review and summarize literature and data from the public domain, specialized industry resources, or client, public and commercial databases).
- Develop and maintain electronic databases, spreadsheets and other files as dictated by project needs. Develop support for litigation and dispute resolution, including forensic accounting analyses.
- Apply critical thinking skills.
- Audit own work product and work product of others to assure quality.
- Participate in a team environment and work hard to meet client deadlines and quality expectations.
- Demonstrate strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Participate in group practice meetings and travel as needed.
- Demonstrate creativity and efficient use of relevant software tools, analytical methods, and computer models to develop solutions.
- Assist in the analysis of financial statements, general ledgers, and other financial documents to determine if accounting malpractice or fraud is indicated.
- Evaluate historical and projected financial performance in connection with determination of damages or diminution of value.
- Assist in the preparation of expert witness reports to support opinions based on industry research and knowledge, data analysis, and financial modeling.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the areas of accounting, finance, statistics, economics, statistics or other related subject.
- 3.5 GPA or higher.
- 0-2 years of experience including internships.
- Capability with MS Excel and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to consider becoming a CPA.
- Experience with relational database program(s) (e.g., MS SQL Server, MS Access, MySQL, Oracle, Teradata) or statistical analysis programs (e.g., SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, Python) is preferred. A desire to expand those capabilities is required.
- Desire to work within a team environment.
Locations:
This position is based in one of BRG’s offices and requires working with colleagues in the office three to four days a week, on average. The office location varies for each of the communities listed above:
- Business Insurance Claims (BIC) – Emeryville, CA and New York, NY
- Financial Institutions Advisory (FIA) – Washington, DC and New York, NY
- Forensic Accounting & Valuation – Houston, TX
- Government Contracts (GovCon) – Washington, DC
Salary Range: $75,000-100,000
