Job Title: Spring 2026 Internship Program – Democracy Docket

Employer: Democracy Docket

Location: Washington, D.C. or Jersey City, NJ (hybrid/in-person)

Compensation: $20/hour (Part-Time, 15–20 hours per week)

Duration: January 26 – April 24, 2026

About Democracy Docket

Democracy Docket is the leading progressive media platform dedicated to voting rights, elections, and democracy. Through journalism, commentary, and analysis, we shine a spotlight on voter suppression, gerrymandering, election subversion, and the ongoing fight for a more just and inclusive democracy.

About the Internship Program

Our interns are embedded directly into Democracy Docket’s teams, where they gain hands-on, professional experience and contribute to meaningful projects. Interns also receive mentorship, regular feedback, and professional development opportunities to support their career growth.

Available Internship Tracks (Spring 2026)

News & Reporting – Work closely with our reporting team to pitch, research, and draft articles covering voting rights, democracy, and current events. Assist with fact-checking, sourcing, and daily newsroom operations.

Social Media & Digital Content – Help create and curate engaging social media content across multiple platforms. Assist with writing posts, drafting graphics/video concepts, and analyzing performance metrics.

Growth & Marketing – Support Democracy Docket’s growth strategies through audience engagement, email campaigns, and analytics. Learn how to use marketing tools to reach and expand a national readership. This internship is located in our Jersey City, NJ office.

Qualifications

We’re looking for students who are:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (all majors welcome)
  • Passionate about democracy, civic engagement, media, or public policy
  • Strong communicators (written and verbal)
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Program Benefits

  • $20/hour compensation
  • Flexible work schedule (15–20 hours/week)
  • Located in or able to commute to Washington, D.C. (or Jersey City, NJ if pursuing marketing) for the internship term
  • Direct mentorship and regular 1:1 check-ins with a staff host
  • Access to Democracy Docket programming, staff events, and professional development opportunities
  • Hands-on experience contributing to a national media platform
