About the Team
The Board’s Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) section helps to promote the safety and soundness of the U.S. financial system by reviewing and ensuring that proposed transactions and activities do not adversely impact the resultant financial institution. M&A staff review applications for adherence to relevant statutory and regulatory considerations, and safety and soundness principles with an analytical focus on the financial condition and managerial resources of the applicant, and the future prospects of the resulting organization.
About the Role
This intern will be analyzing large datasets related to the Federal Reserve Board’s M&A function to assist in developing reports to support the team and inform management. Specifically, they will query databases, perform data verification, and conduct data analysis on M&A performance metrics. This work will culminate in presentations that summarize the data and analysis, utilizing charts and other visualizations to demonstrate conclusions and trends. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about the Federal Reserve’s process for reviewing bank mergers and how it interacts with bank supervision and regulation.
The intern will query, clean, analyze, and present data on Mergers & Acquisitions operations. The focus of this position will be to provide strategic analysis that assists in reporting and M&A planning. Specifically, this role will: 1) query databases and conduct data analysis on performance metrics, 2) Perform data verification to ensure accurate outputs, 3) Create charts and other visualizations to demonstrate strategic metrics and trends, & 4) Summarize data for presentations and reporting, as needed. We are looking for someone with demonstrated research and analytical skills and with a willingness to work both as a team member and independently.

Suggested Major/Minor: Current undergraduate or graduate student in Mathematics; Finance; Business; Economics
Required Skills and Knowledge: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, particularly in data analysis. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
Preferred Skills: Familiarity with other data analysis platforms (R and/or Python) a plus. Proficiency with data visualization (Power BI and Tableau) a plus.

US Citizenship is required for all Board internships and applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students, graduating from their program Fall 2025 or later.

Expected Hours: 32 hours/week during school year, 40 hours/week during summer
