Position Overview
The Office of Health Care Planning in the Bureau of Infectious Disease is seeking a part-time undergraduate intern at the State Public Health Laboratory in Jamaica Plain. The intern will be exposed to governmental public health, and particularly how scientific disease-related information is carefully communicated to various stakeholders, such as scientists, clinical providers, community-based service providers, the general public, and more. They will have an opportunity to work on a small team with a shared goal of supporting HIV/STI/LTBI/Hepatitis integrated service providers and the Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Science through communications products such as reports, webpages, fact sheets, social media content, newsletters, and more.
Responsibilities
The Health Communications Intern will be responsible for supporting various health communications products and infectious disease content, including but not limited to website information, health education materials, social media products, graphics, and support for training and education portfolios.
Skills and Qualifications Desired
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to distill key messages from scientific information.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate in a precise, understandable manner.
- Ability to establish rapport with others and work in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to think critically to navigate projects and move them forward.
- Interest in public health, the health sciences, or health communications.
- Web or graphic design experience a plus.
