Sotomayor Productions is seeking dynamic and self-motivated interns to join our small, justice-driven film production team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in documentary production, post-production, research, impact campaigns, and media outreach, all while working to uplift Latinx, immigrant, and queer stories.

About Us:

Sotomayor Productions is a queer, Latinx-led film and media production company based in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. We collaborate with grassroots organizations to tell stories that resist injustice, amplify cultural memory, and foster collective healing through documentary, narrative, and experimental forms.

Note: We highly recommend reviewing the Sotomayor Productions website and watching our films prior to applying. Catch our film Expanding Sanctuary on Kanopy (available via most institutions and libraries).

Intern Responsibilities May Include:

  • Editing short-form video content (Instagram Reels, TikToks, YouTube videos)
  • Supporting film shoots and capturing behind-the-scenes content
  • Creating social media graphics using Canva
  • Writing compelling copy for social media and promotional campaigns
  • Conducting research for films and media projects
  • Logging footage and organizing video and archival materials
  • Editing transcripts of interviews and archival footage
  • Assisting with outreach emails to potential screening partners, colleges, and universities
  • Promoting and helping run screenings, panels, and events
  • Supporting on-set production work as available
  • Other responsibilities might arise

Internship Details:

  • Time Commitment: 8–10 hours per week (flexible with class schedules, midterms, and finals)
  • Stipend: $500 per intern for the semester
  • Location: Remote with occasional in-person opportunities in Philadelphia

Ideal Candidates:

  • Passionate about social justice, independent film, and uplifting underrepresented communities
  • Experience with video editing (Premiere Pro preferred) and/or graphic design (Canva)
  • Strong writing skills and familiarity with social media platforms
  • Organized, proactive, and eager to learn in a collaborative environment
