Collaborating Curator for traveling exhibition and international educational initiative
THE CREATIVE PROCESS – traveling exhibition and international educational initiative (spotlight on UC Berkeley & Bay Area)
Internship, Externship, and Project-Based Opportunities in–
CURATION/ART/EXHIBITION DESIGN and CONTENT CREATION
Are you majoring in art, curation or other arts-related activity and would like practical experience of helping curate an international exhibition and engage with leading artists and institutions?
This is an opportunity to show your art and/or the creative contributions of your community locally and in an international traveling exhibition, as well as engage with leading institutions and creative thinkers through exhibitions, interviews, and other art initiatives.
Opportunities also exist for gaining experience in adjacent activities of interviewing/podcasting and community/educational initiatives.
Location: Bay Area & remote team collaboration
Time Period for Internship/Externship: (Entirely flexible to your schedule. This is an ongoing international project, so should you not be available for the next few months, just let us know. We can work around your schedule.)
Time period is particularly flexible for involvement in the project-based initiative.
The Creative Process is traveling to universities around the world, so opportunities to participate beyond this time period are possible, adaptable to the student’s free time and interests.
Time period is flexible, but are there any dates a student should be available?
The next few months is the listed time period but is adaptable to your schedule. If we can have an initial video meeting that would be great. If you have other projects, then we might outline collaborations and resume later in the year.
Skillset: All Levels Welcome – BA or Graduate Students
If you have a relationship to the art department and have assisted in exhibitions or cultural events at UC Berkeley, this is ideal because that way it’s fun, has synergy with activities you are already doing, and will not entail many extra hours.
It is also a way of sharing your creativity: visual/performing arts, film, writing…in a variety of publications and reaching a wider audience through The Creative Process traveling exhibition.
Students from all branches of the arts/humanities/design are especially welcome.
All collaboration is appreciated and is completely adaptable to your core skills. We have collaborated with students from a variety of disciplines, including STEM, business, and communications. What is most essential is to be curious, have initiative and a desire to learn. Your knowledge of the local artistic and educational community helps us celebrate UC Berkeley and Bay Area’s creative talent.
A number of our participating students have discovered through The Creative Process that they excel in areas outside of their field of study and have gone on to jobs in those disciplines.
Additional Information – How will I be credited? What will I receive?
Depending on the period of collaboration, The Creative Process is counted as a class. Interns/Externs receive work experience and class credits. Please contact your university’s Internship or Experiential Learning Department for more information.
Interns/Externs and Project-Based Participants are acknowledged in the traveling exhibition, on our website team page and acknowledgments section going to each university and exhibition space.
All participants will also receive a commemorative artwork for their time. We will also write letters of commendation or evaluation for students. Participating universities and institutions are hosting The Creative Process during their important literary/humanities festivals and conferences and naturally, all participants will be invited to attend.
