Jackson Cote’19, Journalism and Political Science, is an Assistant Law Clerk in the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court, First Department, and a graduate of Suffolk University Law School. He was a student attorney at the Suffolk Defenders Clinic, Suffolk Law’s public defense clinic. He also interned at Prisoners’ Legal Services of Massachusetts, the Committee for Public Counsel Services in Quincy, Lawyers for Civil Rights in Boston, and the Trial Division of the Government Bureau of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. Before attending law school, he was a breaking new reporter at MassLive, where he covered criminal legal issues, the coronavirus pandemic, the climate and weather, and other subjects.

During the fall semester of his senior year at UMass, Jackson did a co-op at The Boston Globe, where he reported for the newspaper’s metro section. At the same time, he started working at WBUR, Boston’s NPR affiliate, where he worked as a digital producer on the station’s general news desk and for its national program Here & Now. Jackson continued working at WBUR through graduation, and then moved to Washington, D.C. for an internship at CNN’s political unit.

While at UMass, Jackson:
• Was night editor and then news editor at the Massachusetts Daily Collegian.
• Was news editor at UVC-TV19
• Was a mentor to local high school students in an afterschool multimedia journalism program
