Maddie Fabien’23, Journalism & History, is the Strategic Content Creator, Marketing and Communications, at the UMass Fine Arts Center. As the Fine Arts Center’s strategic content creator, she is involved in multimedia storytelling across social media, print, and web. She manages social media accounts for the University Museum of Contemporary Art, Augusta Savage Gallery, and Hampden Gallery; contribute to the Fine Arts Center’s main channels; and produce photo, video, and written content for exhibitions and performances. Her work includes video editing, writing marketing materials and press releases, coordinating with artists on promotional initiatives, and supporting grant writing to secure funding. Previously, Maddie was a Staff Writer at the Daily Hampshire Gazette (beat reporter covering Easthampton, Westhampton, and Southampton) and did freelance work with organizations like the Public Interest Network and Northfield Mount Hermon school.
As a student, Maddie was a news intern at the Daily Hampshire Gazette, where she wrote a range of stories for the paper. She was also a communications intern for the UMass Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment, where she wrote feature stories for the website and ran the center’s social media accounts.
While at UMass, Maddie:
– was the head news editor for the Amherst Wire, which she says played a role in her job as a reporter at the Gazette and also in her current role in where she edits copy for programs and other marketing materials.
– started a jewelry business selling polymer clay earrings at the Student Farmer’s Market, which she has continued to grow since graduating as a side hustle.
