As an assistant staff archaeologist at SWCA, Shannon works with a dedicated team of archaeologists to conduct field work including surveys, shovel testing, data recovery, and construction monitoring. She also writes both proposals and reports and work closely with clients on many exciting projects! She says she has been able to further explore her potential and learn new skills in the field of archaeology through many various projects with SWCA. And recently she has been added to the Dive Safety Board at SWCA! Shannon was promoted to Assistant Staff Archaeologist at SWCA Environmental Consultants in Amherst, MA in 2024 after starting work with them in 2023 as a cultural resource technician.
Shannon is currently the VP of the board of the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology project (RIMAP). Through RIMAP she has been given the opportunity to speak at a UNESCO meeting in Paris about underwater cultural heritage. In 2024, Shannon received her Master of Arts in Environmental Anthropology at SDSU. And she was an on-call cultural resource field technician at DUDEK from 2021-2022
While at UMass, Shannon:
– was the secretary of the Anthro club
– participated as a performer, costumer, and director with UMass Theatre Guild.
– participated in UMass Outdoors Club activities
– volunteered
Shannon says: All of these experiences have led me to become a well rounded individual who understands the value of exploring different pathways. The activities I did while attending UMass, and the support I received from my professors, mentors, and advisors, gave me the confidence to follow unique paths, however winding they might be, and begin a rewarding career as an archaeologist.
