Welcome Dr. Mnisi Weeks to Legal Studies

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Sindiso Mnisi Weeks to the Legal Studies faculty this fall.

Dr. Mnisi Weeks was born and raised in South Africa and got her law degree at the University of Cape Town. She then went on to get her PhD at Oxford University (UK) as a Rhodes Scholar. In addition to teaching law at the University of Cape Town, Dr. Mnisi Weeks’s career has also included research and advocacy work on rural women, indigenous peoples, and property rights in South Africa, and clerking for one of the justices on the South African Constitutional Court!

She joins the UMass Legal Studies Program after spending the last 7 years at UMass Boston where she was one of the founding faculty of the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development. Her research and teaching focus on issues of inequality across race/ethnicity, class, gender and urban/rural lines. She has authored many books, book chapters and articles on these themes.

This fall she will be teaching Law, Society and Global Justice (Legal 394SI) and will introduce two more new courses in the spring.
