Interning at Food Bank News offers an opportunity to become a vital part of our small staff and receive highly customized training from an editor with more than 30 years of experience in the field, including guiding and managing a team of reporters for more than a decade.
An internship at Food Bank News in summer 2024 will involve regularly producing articles for publication based on interviews and research. Interns will also get involved in at least one – and possibly two – longer-term, research-oriented projects.
Under guidance, our intern will come up with story ideas, research them, conduct interviews, and produce crisp and accurate copy. The ideal candidate will be a clever and curious interviewer, with a knack for finding and telling original stories.
The ideal intern will also bring his or her organizational and technical skills to bear as we work together on longer-term, data-heavy projects requiring diligence, persistence and attention to detail. Relevant skills include data scraping, WordPress, Google Sheets and Canva. Social media skills are also welcome.
This position will be remote, with daily teleconferences and the opportunity for occasional in-person meetings. We are seeking someone who is self-motivated, upbeat and enthusiastic, with an ability to work independently. An interest in hunger relief is a plus.
Students will work 20 hours a week during an agreed-upon eight-week period during June, July and/or August.
