Assistant Publisher Internship – Summer 2024
Are you considering a career in publishing or media and want to get some hands on experience? Do you love supporting small business and helping to provide resources to those who need it most? If you answered yes to these questions then keep reading! (If not, that’s cool. We’re not for everyone.)
Join me for this seasonal internship and get real, hands-on publishing experience with the hyper-local digital media outlet of a national syndicated, family-friendly news and event network! You’ll work closely with me (a female entrepreneur who is building not one, but two businesses.) You will be treated as a valued team member and will have access to work directly on client campaigns. The position is 100% remote. Occasional lunches (either in person or virtual) could be a thing… if you want them to be!
Hats you’ll wear: publisher, editor, writer, content strategist, investigative journalist, community liaison, sales rep and more! While our speciality is providing resources to local families in our community, we are also in the business of helping small businesses hone their messaging and achieve their business goals. This means we have to color outside the lines sometimes! You’ll be encouraged to do so.
In the assistant publisher role, you’ll focus on both business and content strategy. But there’s no sitting back here, this role requires a roll-up-your-sleeves as a team attitude. You’ll receive ongoing support and direction, but I won’t give you all the answers. You’ll be encouraged to be an independent thinker and bring your own solutions to the table. You’ll have the opportunity to be in the field. Our work is directly affected by the current news, economy and consumer attitude which means we plan, but have to be flexible. It also means everyday is different! One thing I can guarantee, all of our work requires creativity and the efforts we make matter to the local community we serve.
Commitment: 16 – 20 hours per week. Days of the week are flexible.
Pay: Unpaid internship. Class credit available and optional.
Sample skills you’ll be able to put on your resume after we work together:
• Participated in campaign concepting. Contributed ideas to real client campaigns
• Created integrated editorial content strategy and executed on identified approach
• Concepted, wrote and published unique content/articles
• Uncovered and managed 14-town event listing hub
• Created and published key advertisements and marketing materials
• Managed key brand partnerships
• Proficient in campaign measurement tactics and reporting
You don’t have previous publishing/media experience? That’s ok. Here’s what matters:
• You love animals. Specifically dogs. (j/k…not really though)
• You love to write and uncover compelling stories
• You have an insatiable appetite for learning and enjoy solving puzzles
• You work well independently, but enjoy having a partner in crime
• You have strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
• You believe good client service matters and rep yourself 100% in everything you do
